Main Street ANniversary

The Mount Vernon Downtown Association (MVDA) applied for and received designation as a Washington State Main Street in 2008, and achieved national accreditation in 2010. Now celebrating our 10th year as a Washington State-certified Main Street community, and as one of just 12 nationally accredited Main Streets in Washington, we are delighted with the progress we have made.

With a small staff and many volunteers, we work in collaboration toward increasing prosperity in our district, preserving the historic fabric which makes the traditional heart of our community unique, and restoring and engendering a sense of community pride. The MVDA uses the Main Street Approach to guide its work, and is proud to have been invited to serve as one of two pilot communities in the state of Washington to employ the Main Street Refresh, beginning in 2018.

Since 2008, we have seen a 65% reduction in street-level vacancies, beautiful restorations to 9 historic buildings in our district, and the addition of a wonderful riverfront park. In the last two years alone, over 20 new businesses have opened downtown. Join us!
