Meet Connie Pommels and Michael Jaswal, owners of new downtown business, Modern Country Living.
Michael and Connie bring a wealth of expertise to Downtown Mount Vernon through their new retail space on S. 1st St. Connie’s background and experience comes from Coach, where she gained 16 years of retail experience. Michael worked at Lazzoni, an international fine furniture design and retail company, where he was a designer and project manager, opening three stores throughout his time there. Connie eventually joined Michael at Lazzoni, and they became a team- and realized they made a very good one at that. They share a passion for intentionally curated products that are beautiful, unique, and well made, and decided that they wanted to bring this passion to life on their own.
Michael and Connie knew they wanted to start a shop here in Skagit where they are raising their family. They love the idea of investing in the place that they call home, and role modeling for their children what it looks like to be entrepreneurs. When the storefront on S. 1st St. became available, they felt like it was meant to be. The space is big enough to showcase larger furniture and lighting pieces, and also to get creative with gifts and accessories. Everything you find in Modern Country Living has been hand selected by Connie and Michael, from the furniture and lighting, Italian bags, and down to all the little unique gifts you can find carefully strewn about the store. No two vists to Modern Country Living will ever be the same, as Michael and Connie are constantly sourcing from new places and switching it up. Modern Country Living looks forward to leaning into what the community responds positively to, choosing products and offering services that fit with the clientele that downtown Mount Vernon attracts.
Michael and Connie are excited and proud to be given the opportunity to contribute to the Downtown Mount Vernon business community. “We’ve put our heart and soul into this place!” Connie says, which is immediately apparent as you enter their space.
