Mount Vernon Red Apple & Skagit Valley Food Co-op: Keeping Tax Dollars Local

The MVDA would like to thank and welcome returning B&O Tax Credit Supporters Mount Vernon Red Apple and Skagit Valley Food Co-op! The Food Co-op has been an MVDA partner since 2010, and The Red Apple since 2011. The Mount Vernon Red Apple and Skagit Valley Food Co-op take advantage of the Tax Credit program in Washington state that allows businesses to keep their B&O tax dollars in the community in which they do business, rather than sending them to Olympia for redistribution elsewhere.

It is surprisingly simple: businesses can make a donation to a Main Street Community (like Mount Vernon), and then take a credit of 75% of that donation against their state B&O taxes owed in the next calendar year. In addition, since the Mount Vernon Downtown Association is a 501(c)3 organization, there could be federal tax benefits as well! Why not keep your tax dollars here in our community, where they can be put to work toward making this great place even better?!

The 2019 Tax Credits opened up January 14, so be sure to let the Dept. of Revenue know that you want to keep your dollars here before March 30. You have until November to make the donation. To learn more about how to make your pledge to DOR, and/or for more information about the program, please contact Ellen Gamson, MVDA Executive Director at director@mountvernondowntown.org, or (360) 336-3801.
