Mount Vernon mural showcases impact of immigrants

MOUNT VERNON — A mural illustrating the significance of immigrants in Skagit County is being painted on the outside wall of a downtown building with the help of local youths and volunteers.

International artist Benjamin Swatez organized the event in conjunction with the Rachel’s HeART camp at the YMCA Oasis Teen Shelter in an attempt to involve county youths with the project.

“It’s cool to see the benefits of a small town where everyone knows each other come together,” Swatez said. “The youth are teaching me a lot.”
