HOliday Parade Judge Tammy OOmmen

This year, we've invited some of the many local unsung heroes of the pandemic to be recognized at our Annual Holiday Parade. Representing the education sector, we welcome Tammy Oommen as one of our honored Judges!

Tammy is the 2021-22 ESD 189 Regional Classified School Employee of the Year Golden Apple recipient. She has been working her "kid whisperer" magic at Laventure for almost 30 years, where she runs an in-school intervention for students who are having a difficult time being successful in class.

In her free time, Tammy has been very active in community theater, and a number of community projects, including creating and advising the Be Real Girls Empowerment club, at Laventure Middle school to help girls find a place to belong and reach their full potential. The club has hosted a conference for the 4th year during International Women's Day in March with women leaders. During Covid, the conference was held virtually and went international. She is also the (PSE1948) Public School Employees Union Zone 8 Director and Vice President of her union chapter. Currently, she also serves as a Sewer Commissioner for the Big Lake District 2.

She is passionate and caring for her students and community. Tammy is a shining example of the committed and dedicated people who have continued to work so hard during extremely challenging times to keep education moving forward for the children of our community.

We thank her and all of the educators in Skagit Valley for their hard work!
