New Direction for Downtown

MOUNT VERNON — The Mount Vernon Downtown Association is undergoing a change of leadership after executive director Georgiann Dustin announced her resignation late last week, and three board members decided not to run for re-election.

Dustin was the only paid employee in the nonprofit association for three years and was responsible for coordinating the Main Street program — a national and state initiative to promote economic revitalization, promotion and preservation for historic areas such as downtown Mount Vernon..

She also was responsible for overseeing organization of downtown events such as the Tulip Festival Street Fair, sidewalk sales and The Fall Fest, which was cancelled this year. Other committees the director manages are economic restructuring and beautification projects.
