Welcoming Wingz N Thingz

A backyard, a Costco turkey fryer, and a love for soul food is the origin story of Downtown Mount Vernon’s newest brick & mortar restaurant: Wingz n Thingz.

For Anthony Slater, owner of Wingz & Thingz, opening a brick & mortar restaurant has been a long time coming. Originally from Miami, Anthony's roots in Southern cuisine run deep, and are where his love for cooking began. "Down south, we cook.” he says, “You’re chefs in the making before you're born.” As a professional basketball player and coach, he loved to host teammates and players for backyard celebrations over beer and wings. "I used to tell my players that someday I would start a restaurant.” They may have rolled their eyes, but in 2019 Anothony decided to go for it. He and his wife, Rachel, bought a food truck and opened their homemade wing truck on Superbowl Sunday 2019 outside of Ace Hardware in Mount Vernon. When they raked in $6000 on their very first day, they knew that they had something special. From that day forward, the food truck continued to be so wildly successful and beloved that Anthony and his family decided it was time to put some roots down. When the perfect opportunity came along in the form of a fully equipped kitchen and restaurant space in downtown Mount Vernon (previously home to Ca Phe Song), the family jumped at it.

What makes Wingz n Thingz stand out isn't just their origin story, it's their food. Anthony and his wife have a menu that blends Southern tradition with inventive flavors. "Chicken is always marinated and seasoned before it’s cooked, which is not the case for other places. From BBQ & garlic parm to the OMG (a combination of three different flavors created by his wife), the wings speak for themselves.” says Anothony.

Wingz n Thingz also offers a variety that includes chicken and waffles, specialty fries, a chicken tender sandwich, and fresh lemonades to enjoy with the food. Soon, they will have additions like cheesesteak and fish & chips as well.

Wingz n Thingz  has a vision for their restaurant to be a community hub, a place where people gather over shared experience and good food. Whether it's hosting watch parties with wings, football, and beer, or planning lively events with games and a DJ, Wingz n Thingz aims to bring people together. With a grand opening celebration and exciting events planned, Wingz n Thingz invites you to stop by and experience it all for yourself!  The family is excited to bring their vision and flavor to the PNW and Skagit County, and to bring southern flavor and hospitality to Downtown Mount Vernon.

Go check it out at 303 Pine St. - Pine Square in Downtown Mount Vernon!
